Anasi Earrings from Uganda - The Story
These stunning handcrafted earrings are made by women in Uganda’s Kasese District, where farming is the primary livelihood. Village Lift, through its Social Entrepreneurship Program and a $1,000 seed grant, partnered with the non-profit Anasi Farmers to help these talented women purchase materials and launch this stunning collection. The collaboration was made possible with the help of the American Women for International Understanding (AWIU), a strong supporter of Anasi Farmers' impactful work. The initiative provides much-needed income and independence, helping them overcome the widespread poverty and challenges in the region.
For women like Gloria, the program has been life-changing. “The project has enabled me to earn my own income, freeing me from the struggles of depending on my husband,” she shares. With financial literacy training, she now saves, plans to start a business, and supports her children’s education and healthcare. This craft-making program has brought more than financial stability—it has fostered creativity and purpose. Each pair of earrings tells a story of resilience, empowerment, and hope, making them a perfect gift or a meaningful addition to your own collection.
