Anasi and Alpha Women Earrings from Uganda - The Story

These stunning handcrafted earrings are made by women in Uganda’s Kasese District, where farming is the primary livelihood. Village Lift, through its Social Entrepreneurship Program and a $1,000 seed grant, partnered with the non-profits Anasi Farmers and Alpha Women to help these talented artisans purchase materials and launch this beautiful collection. The collaboration was made possible with the support of the American Women for International Understanding (AWIU), a strong advocate for community-led women’s empowerment initiatives.

Anasi Farmers works to increase economic opportunity for women through sustainable agriculture, while Alpha Women promotes women’s health, education, environmental protection, and economic independence in Mbunga Village. Their programs range from vocational training and poverty eradication efforts to campaigns for gender equality, reproductive health, and environmental stewardship.

For women like Gloria, the program has been life-changing. “The project has enabled me to earn my own income, freeing me from the struggles of depending on my husband,” she shares. With financial literacy training, she now saves, plans to start a business, and supports her children’s education and healthcare.

This craft-making initiative has brought more than financial stability. It has fostered creativity, purpose, and community resilience. Each pair of earrings tells a story of hope and determination, making them a perfect gift or a meaningful addition to your own collection.
